The Blake Dawson client interview competition aims to develop the core skill of client contact which is of upmost importance to all legal employers. Competitors take part in a simulated client interview with a mock client and are marked on their ability to not only recognise the legal issues presented by the client but also create a rapport with the person they are interviewing.
Such a rapport is crucial in eliciting all of the relevant facts which may not be willingly given away by the client, but may be crucial to a certain aspect of the legal problem. Student's with the greatest success in this competition are able to garner all the information required from the client, while still maintaining a courteous relationship which is empathetic to the client's circumstances.
This competition is run in the latter part of semester 2 each year and is split into junior (first year) and senior divisions.
