The LSA is host to an array of competitions being held at many levels. Below is a list of our major competitions. If you have any questions regarding competitions, please contact Rowan Kendall at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it

    Brian Orr Mooting Competition:
Brian Orr Moot is the biggest competition run by the Bond LSA.  It is run in two
sections: a senior division that has a slightly harder problem from later in a
law degree, and a junior problem that is aimed at students in their first and
second semesters.  The winners of the senior competition have the honour of
representing Bond University at both the Queensland and Australian Law
Students’ Association Championships with the possibility of representing
Australia in the South East Asian rounds of a similar competition. Whether you
are a seasoned mooter or a first-timer, this competition will be invaluable
experience with feedback from many Faculty of Law staff members and
industry professionals.  The competition runs in Week 11 of semester 1 and is
an opportunity that no law student should miss.

    Blake Dawson Client Interview Competition:
The Blake Dawson Client Interview Competition is another of the LSA’s large
competitions.  It runs in the latter half of semester 2 and is aimed at those who
have a taste for practical experience but aren’t as keen to advocate their
client’s innocence in a courtroom.  The aim of a client interview is to extract
as much secret information from your client as possible – this can be difficult
when you are given a 3 line brief and the client receives 3 pages of facts.  This
is a skill that will be tested numerous times during your Bond Law Degree and
so practical exposure in front of staff who are experienced at assessing
interviewing technique is a must.  The winners of the competition will
continue to represent Bond at both the Queensland and Australian Law
    Students’ Association Championships.

    Clayton Utz Negotiation Competition:
Clayton Utz have been a strong supporter of the Bond LSA and it is an honour
to have them sponsor another of our largest competitions.  The art of
negotiation is tested from the moment that you commence your Bond Law
Degree, with every ALS student having to undertake this as assessment.  It is
not likely to go away over the next few years either and so entering this
competition and honing your skills is an irreplaceable way to improve your
marks without being in a stressful or assessed arena.  The negotiation
competition is split into two divisions, again senior and junior, so that those
with less experience have a greater chance to hone their skills before fighting
with the big boys. The negotiation competition runs in the middle of semester
3 and takes some preparation but is more than worth it for the benefits gained.
Again, the winners of the senior division represent Bond at the Queensland
and Australian Law Students’ Association Competitions.

    McLaughlins Solicitors’ Witness Examination Competition:
The McLaughlins Solicitors’ Witness Examination is one of our relatively new
competitions and is run at the start of semester 1.  It is combined with the
McLaughlins Solicitors’ Closing remarks competition aimed at new students,
to enable them to get involved and have a feel for how LSA competitions
function.  Witness examination itself is not a skill that is assessed until later
in your degree and it can therefore be a difficult one to get the hang of but the
competition is worth the expense in time as the winner receives two weeks
work experience with McLaughlins Solicitors in Southport and the opportunity
to represent Bond at the Queensland and Australian Law Students’ Association
    Competitions.
